House cleaning cost calculator

Estimate a clean from the size of the home, the type of clean, how many cleaners and what an hour of their time costs. Every starting value is an example: change it to your own numbers. Nothing is sent or saved.

The home

A standard clean counts as 1. 1.6 means the clean takes 1.6 times as long as a standard one. These two are assumptions, not measurements: use your own.

The crew

Speed is the square feet one cleaner covers in an hour on this kind of home. Time yourself on a few jobs and use that number.

The working

This is an estimate from the numbers you entered, not a price from any company. It leaves out supplies, travel, taxes, insurance and the condition of the home. Figures are rounded for display.

    How to estimate a clean

Most cleaning is priced from time. Work out how many hours the job takes, multiply by the hourly rate of everyone on site, and you have a number to start from. This calculator does exactly that sum and shows it line by line, so you can see which input moved the answer.

The time comes from your cleaning speed: the area one cleaner covers in an hour. Divide the size of the home by that speed, then by the number of cleaners, and you get the hours on site. Two cleaners finish in about half the time of one, but the paid hours stay the same.

    What changes the time

    • Size. More area means more hours, but rooms matter too. A small home with three bathrooms takes longer than its square footage suggests.
    • Condition. A home that has not been cleaned in months is slower than one that is tidy. Raise the multiplier or lower the speed for it.
    • Type of clean. A deep clean or a move-out clean covers more than a standard visit, which is why each has its own multiplier. The values in the fields are examples; set them from jobs you have timed.
    • Extras. Each extra adds a number of minutes you can see and edit, shared across the crew.

    Using it to quote consistently

If you run a cleaning business, put your own speed and rate in once and quote every home the same way. Time a handful of real jobs, note the area and the hours, and use that to set your speed and your multipliers. Check the estimate against what the job actually took, then adjust. A quote built from your own numbers is easier to explain to a customer than a guess.

If you are a homeowner, ask a company for its rate and how many people it sends, enter those, and see whether a quote is in the range the arithmetic suggests. If you want customers to get this kind of estimate on your own site, a quote calculator for your own website can do it.

What this calculator does not know

It does not know the condition of the home, the supplies and equipment, travel time, taxes, insurance, or how a particular company prices. It also has no market prices in it: every figure is calculated from the numbers you typed. Treat the result as a starting point for a conversation, not as an offer.

    How is the estimate calculated?

Hours on site are the home size divided by the cleaning speed and the number of cleaners, multiplied by the type of clean, plus the extras minutes divided by the number of cleaners. The cost is those hours times the number of cleaners times the hourly rate.

Where do the type multipliers come from?

They are assumptions, not measurements. Deep clean 1.6 and move-out clean 1.8 are example values you can change. Time your own jobs and replace them.

Can I use it for a move-out or a commercial clean?

For a move-out clean, pick Move-out clean and set its multiplier. For an office or other commercial space, enter its area and your own speed and rate. The sum is the same; only your numbers change.

Is the per-month figure an exact bill?

No. It multiplies the cost of one visit by the average visits in a month: 52 divided by 12 for weekly, 26 divided by 12 for every two weeks, and 1 for monthly. A month with five weekly visits costs more than the average.

Does it save or send what I enter?

No. The sums run in this page and nothing is stored or sent. Reload the page or press Reset and the examples come back.
