Where Wix wins.

Three of these four are things Siter.io does not do. If one of them matters to your project, stay on Wix.

  • A whole small business in one bill

    Payments, e-commerce, bookings and scheduling, invoicing and a marketing suite are tiers of the same subscription. Siter.io has none of them, so a site that needs to take money belongs on Wix.

  • A code-free CMS on every Studio plan

    Studio plans carry from 1,500 to 10,000,000 CMS items with indexes and read and write quotas published per tier. Siter.io has no CMS at all.

  • Breakpoints you can edit, code-free

    Wix Studio ships three defaults (desktop from 1,001px, tablet 751 to 1,000px, mobile 350 to 750px) and lets you edit them or add your own, code-free. Siter.io lets you add custom widths too, and you lay out each one by hand.

  • It publishes free

    A Wix free site is a public URL. It carries Wix ads and a wixsite.com address, but it is live. Siter.io's Free plan is live too, at name.getsiter.com, but with 3 pages and 1 form.

Why designers leave.

A designer wants something different from Wix than a florist does. The first of these only shows on the day you try to leave.

  • There is no way off Wix

    Wix states that a site "must run on Wix's servers" and that "the SaaS architecture does not support external hosting since it uses Wix's proprietary technology". There is no HTML, CSS or code export. CMS collections come out as CSV and blog posts cannot be exported to another platform at all.

  • The Figma import is Studio-only

    The Figma plugin works in the Wix Studio Editor, not the classic Wix Editor, so which Wix you signed up for decides whether you have it. It is one-way with no re-sync, one page at a time, and there is no Studio-to-Figma direction.

  • Half the design arrives as text

    Menus and forms import as plain text and lose their functionality. Buttons only convert if they are text with a fill color, so anything with a shape or an icon does not. Videos, galleries and input elements are not recognized and are rebuilt by hand in the editor.

    Wix Editor bills on Light, Core, Business and Business Elite. Wix Studio bills on Basic, Standard, Plus and Elite. Different names, different ladders, different editors, and Wix's own pricing footnote says prices and currency vary by location and that USD is displayed for reference only.

How switching goes.

Wix has nothing to import, so the route runs through Figma. You are rebuilding the pages.

  1. Open the Figma file the design came from, or rebuild the pages there.
  2. Send each frame across with the plugin.
  3. Set the breakpoints and the SEO fields.
  4. Move the domain, then publish.

Read this before you cancel anything

Wix has no HTML or CSS export and says a site must run on its servers. Before you go, export CMS collections as CSV and copy your images and text while the site is live.

Wix says blog posts cannot be exported to another platform at all. If the domain came free with the plan, move or repoint it first (see Wix’s transfer help, then point it at Siter.io), and keep Wix until the new site resolves.

Wix does far more than Siter.io, and the gap is wider here than anywhere else we compare.

What is the best alternative to Wix?

For a shop, bookings and invoicing, another all-in-one platform such as Squarespace; for a blog without a shop, look at Webflow. For designed pages where the rest of Wix is overhead, a smaller tool costs less and has less to learn.
