Add a popup to your website without a plugin
Design the popup on the canvas and set a button to Open overlay. Visitors click, it opens over your page, and a click outside closes it.
A popup that looks like your site.
-
Designed on your canvas
A popup is part of the page you design, so it takes your fonts, colors and spacing, and it can hold a form.
-
Seven places to open
Center it, or pin it to a corner or an edge of the screen.
7 positions
- Centered
- Top Left
- Top Center
- Top Right
- Bottom Left
- Bottom Center
- Bottom Right
-
Always an easy way out
Give a close icon the Close overlays action, and let a click outside the popup close it too.
Four settings, one panel.
Select the button and its Click Action holds the whole popup: what it opens, where it sits, and how it closes.
Open overlay
Pick it under Click Action on a button or an image, then click the element on the canvas that it should open.
Position
Centered, or one of six spots along the top and bottom of the screen.
Overlay background
The color laid over the page behind the popup. Lower its opacity to dim the page without hiding it.
Close when clicking outside
Leave it on and a click anywhere off the popup closes it, the first thing visitors try.
Live in three steps.
-
Design the popup
Lay out what it shows on the canvas, a heading, a form or a larger picture, like any other part of the page.
-
Set Open overlay
Select the button, choose Open overlay under Click Action, and click the element it should open.
-
Place it and publish
Pick a Position and an Overlay background, publish, and press the button on your live page.
Frequently asked.
How do I add a popup to my website?
Design its content on the canvas, select the button that should open it, and choose Open overlay under Click Action. Click the element it should open, pick a Position and an Overlay background, then publish.
Do I need a popup plugin or any code?
No. Open overlay is built into the editor, so there is nothing to install and no script to paste. The popup is designed on the same canvas as the page, so it matches the rest of your site.
Can a popup open on its own, on a timer or when someone leaves?
Not today. A popup opens when a visitor clicks something you gave Open overlay, so it never interrupts anyone.
How do I make an image lightbox?
Put a larger copy of the picture in a popup and give the thumbnail Open overlay, Centered, over a dark Overlay background. Each one is a popup you design, so it suits a few chosen images.
Can I put a form in a popup?
Yes. A Form element works inside a popup the way it does anywhere on the page, and its answers arrive the same way. Website forms covers the rest.
Do popups need a paid plan?
No. Open overlay works on every plan, Free included, where your website goes live at name.getsiter.com.

Design the popup where
you design the page.
Draw the button, design what it opens, and pick Open overlay. The popup takes your type and spacing because it is part of the same canvas.
