What Siter.io actually is.

It is a website builder you use like a design tool. You draw on a canvas, place things where you want them, and publish that. There is no theme to fight, no block library to bend, and no layout that snaps your work back into a grid it prefers. If you have used Figma or Sketch, the first hour will feel familiar.

  • Freehand, then live

    The canvas is the site. What you arrange is what gets published, across three fixed breakpoints, with hosting and SSL included in every paid plan rather than billed separately.

  • It starts where your design already is

    Our Figma plugin brings a file in on every plan, free included. Figma lists 139k users on it. The import is one-way and does not re-sync, and prototype animations do not come across.

How it got here.

Designmodo started in 2010 as a web design blog and turned into a company that makes tools for the people who were reading it. Siter.io took four years before anyone outside could use it.

    Designmodo begins as a web design publication. The tools came later, and came out of the same question the writing kept circling: why is putting a designed page online still this hard?

  • 2018–2022 — four years of build

    A freehand canvas that also produces a real, responsive, hosted site is a slow thing to get right. Twenty thousand people used the beta before it opened to everyone.

  • 11 July 2022 — public

    Launch day took #1 Product of the Day and #1 Product of the Week on Product Hunt, and #2 Product of the Month for July. The Figma-to-HTML release placed again in 2023, and the editor rebuild in 2024.

Yes, on every plan including the free one, through the Figma plugin. The import runs one way and does not re-sync afterwards, and prototype animations and interactions do not come across — so treat it as a strong starting point rather than a live link between the two tools.
