Christmas color palettes

Six festive schemes, five colors each, ordered dark to light. Click a hex to copy it.

The default Christmas palette - pillar-box red beside bright green - is the one everybody reaches for and the one that looks cheapest on a screen, because those two hues are close to equally light and sit almost opposite each other, so their edges vibrate. Every traditional scheme below fixes that the same way: it darkens the green well past the red, which restores the hierarchy and, not coincidentally, makes the red usable as an accent.

  • Traditional, deepened

  • Scandinavian

  • Midnight and silver

  • Spiced

  • Winter forest

  • Candlelight

There are three routes out of the obvious version, and all three are represented here. Deepen it: forest green, oxblood and warm gold, which is the most reliable for anything commercial. Cool it: the Scandinavian route of white, pale gray and a single red, which is the safest for an interface because it is mostly neutral. Or drop the red entirely for midnight blue, silver and white, which reads as festive without reading as Christmas, and is what to use when the campaign has to run into January.
